Sun-N-Fun 2009

( April 21-27th  Lakeland, FL )

Sun-N-Fun 2009 had probably the best weather since we started going to the show in 1992. The warm beautiful sunshine was fantastic but the lack of rain made this a very dusty show. Quite a contrast to the muddy ground we had at the start of the show last year. We had at least 11 Mustangs fly in from as far away as Texas.

Bill Scheltema from Michigan was back with his Mustang II after winning Grand Champion Plans Built last year. He has been flying it quite a bit since finishing it in 2005 and still trailers it to and from the airport using his folding wings.

Leslie Burril from VA brought the polished retractable gear Mustang II built by George Linkis back to the show for the first time since George sold it. Leslie got the airplane flying again after it was damaged in a gear collapse with the previous owner. He loves it and says it draws a crowd everywhere he goes.

Our dinner Wednesday night was another good one at Buddy Freddy’s.  The one thing that was missing this year was Bob Bushby.  Florida is a bit of a drive from his Texas winter stomping grounds.  What he needs is a good cross country airplane …
